We are beginning 2010 with great news. We have volunteer teams scheduled for every week beginning January 4 through March 31. However, we still need you! There are still many families who cannot live in their homes due to the damages sustained by Hurricane Ike.
We ask for your continued prayers for the staff, volunteers and the families who are waiting to receive assistance. May 2010 be another year without a hurricane and a year that finds more homeowners back in their homes.
We have been so fortunate to have volunteer teams come from all over the country! So far, we are happy to announce that we have helped more than 774 families move back into their homes. We still have over 10 families from Hurricane Rita, and more than 80 from Hurricane Ike to help, and our waiting list continues to grow. We are pleading for your help more than ever. We need people to help us in every aspect of our volunteer services ranging from repairing people's homes to praying.
------------------------------
We have been so fortunate to have volunteer teams come from all over the country! So far, at Disaster, we are happy to announce that we have helped more than 668 families move back into their homes. We still have over 75 families from Hurricane Rita, and more than 50 from Hurricane Ike to help, and our waiting list continues to grow. As this list of people from all over Southeast Texas grows, we plead for your help more than ever. We need people to help us in every aspect of our volunteer services ranging from rebuilding people's homes to praying.
We are so very grateful to all of those who have already helped by volunteering with Rita Recovery. Between October 2005 and the middle of November 2008, we have had 592 teams from thirty-three states and one country. Within the 592 teams, with many of them as repeat visitors, we have had7,433 volunteers working to what totals 29,657 days, which is in essence 235,777 total worked hours by our volunteers. Due to the volunteers' generosity, the people of this area have saved over 4.6 million dollars in labor costs, and we continue to have volunteers come to Southeast
Texas to help people repair their homes in recovery of Hurricane Rita and Ike.
So, "Why do we need YOU," you may ask? It is simple; we want families back in their homes. YOU can be an integral part in helping us do just that.
If you have any questions or comments, we would love to hear from you! You can e-mail us at volunteers@umcortexas.com.
As you consider volunteering, please note that we do not work on Sunday because we like to give the homeowners this personal time.

With the devastation of Hurricane Ike comes the transformation of Rita Recovery. Our organization is now Ike and Rita Recovery. We are in the process of receiving information from the families whose homes sustained damage from Hurricane Ike. We have also already begun working on the recovery process with these families. Therefore, we are asking for volunteers. We need teams large and small to come and volunteer in repairing the homes that have been damaged by these hurricanes. We are thankful for all of the teams and volunteers that have given up their time so far to help in the recovery process so that these families can move back into their homes, but there is still more work to be done.
We ask that you prayerfully consider bringing a team to help families rebuild their homes and try to return to their lives as they were before the storm.

REALLY?!?!
We are beginning our 5th year of disaster recovery efforts. How can it be? Really?! In some ways, it’s seems like only yesterday since Hurricane Rita hit. In many ways, though, it feels like a very long time! We’ve endured direct hits from Hurricanes Humberto and Ike and close calls from several others in the last 4 years. As 2009 ends, we celebrate no hurricane this year!!!
As we begin 2010, we want to give thanks for the hundreds of volunteers that have come to Southeast Texas to assist with recovery efforts as a result of Hurricane Ike. As of December 31, 127 homes have been completed. We continue to repair damaged homes and we celebrate each home that can be checked off the list.

Ike and Rita Recovery
On September 24, 2005, Hurricane Rita made landfall on Southeast Texas. Rita Recovery was established as a partner with UMCOR (United Methodist Committee on Relief). Since then, more than 650 homes have been repaired. These repairs were made possible because of all the many teams. In the past three years, more than 550 teams with over 7,000 volunteers have come here to help repair the homes that were damaged by Hurricane Rita. In the midst of these repairs, another hurricane made landfall in Southeast Texas. On September 13, 2008, less than 3 years later, Hurricane Ike struck the Texas coast damaging and destroying more homes with tree and wind damage as well as flooding from the storm surge.

The answer is a resounding YES! Most of the downed trees have been removed and there are not a lot of “blue roofs” to be seen. However, there are still thousands of families who have damaged homes caused by Hurricane Rita.
We still need volunteer teams to help with repairs. There is dry wall to be hung, ceilings to be put up, floors to be put down and the list goes on and on. We are always looking for electricians and plumbers to assist us.
So, please prayerfully consider bringing a team of 1, 10, 100…any number is appreciated. We still need YOU!
We have been so fortunate to have volunteer teams come from all over the country! So far, at Rita Recovery, we are happy to announce that we have helped more than 576 families move back into their homes. We still have over 200 families to help, and our waiting list continues to grow. As this list of people from all over Southeast Texas grows, we plead for your help more than ever. We need people to help us in every aspect of our volunteer services ranging from rebuilding people's homes to praying.
