Hal Shope-Lutheran Disaster Response-All Things New Ministry: They are ramping up for Long Term Recovery. They provided a grant to assist with lodging and meals for case managers to attend training. They are expecting teams to come in from PA, NJ, and IA to begin work. He also reminded the group they have a programs for kids that is available to any group who is interested. The content is very flexible and can be adapted to a group’s specific needs.

About Our Ministry

All Things New Ministry exists to assist churches to discover passion in serving by equipping and nurturing their members to grow spiritually through ministry to people affected by disaster.

Goals

The goals of All Things New Ministry are to assist churches and communities in the development of on-going disaster ministry by:

- Equipping them to meet physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of individuals and families affected by disaster
- Enabling them to create plans for disaster ministry
- Encouraging faith into action
- Providing written materials to individuals affected by disaster to bring them comfort and assist them in restoring wholeness in all areas of life

Disasters

Often people wonder if there is anywhere for them to serve Christ in the disaster field. There are more opportunities to serve than most people imagine.

The number of disasters both in the United States and the world is increasing. The United States averages 53 major disasters per year. Disasters occur in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and 7 US territories. Most states and territories face numerous disasters, with several having many disasters within any single year. All types of disasters occur: floods, hurricanes, tornadoes, ice storms, fires, earthquakes, and others such as terrorist attacks. These disasters have frightening and devastating effects on individuals, families and communities. Hundreds of thousands of families have been affected by disasters in the US.
