Brethren Disaster Ministries is now recruiting volunteers to help rebuild 2 homes at a new disaster response project based in Winamac, Indiana. Volunteer groups of 6-8 persons are needed each week, starting September 27. Volunteers should be in good health, physically fit and able to do some heavy lifting. Construction skills (especially new construction) are particularly helpful.

In the winter of 2008 a storm system with heavy rains flooded many communities along the Tippecanoe River in northern Indiana. The devastating effects of the floods left many homes damaged or destroyed. While over 1,300 households in the region applied for FEMA assistance, many families did not receive enough assistance to fully recover and return home. The local disaster recovery agency has called upon Brethren Disaster Ministries to help with the needed reconstruction.

Housing
Volunteer housing is at the Bethel Bible Church in Winamac. Sleeping is in the Shenandoah bunk trailer. Showers, bathrooms, kitchen, and meeting space are inside the church. Volunteers must provide own bedding and towels. There is wireless internet available at the church.

Meals
Meals include a continental breakfast, packed lunch, and hot supper. Note: Volunteers may be expected to assist with food preparation and cleanup.

Work
The work consists of two new builds (1 in Pulaski, 1 in Monterey), as well as additional repair work to existing homes where needed. Initial work to be done includes: Framing, Roofing, Sheeting, Subfloor, Window Installation, Doors

Transportation
No BDM vehicles are on site. Volunteers will be asked to drive their own vehicles back and forth from jobsite to the volunteer house. BDM will reimburse fuel or mileage for on-site use of personal vehicles.

The Shenandoah District tool trailer has been transported to the site.
