CWS at work following Japan earthquake, tsunami
The powerful tsunami that struck Japan overnight may have affected areas in the Pacific Rim where CWS has programs. Our emergency response staff are in contact with our office in Bangkok, where we are monitoring the situation in Japan and across the region.
In Japan, Church World Service is prepared to support efforts of partners there, including the National Christian Council of Japan and the United Church of Christ of Japan, both of which are planning relief efforts. CWS is considering other partnerships in Japan, as well, and may be involved in the issue of disaster risk reduction.
Our domestic teams continues to monitor potential impacts in Hawaii and other Western state coastal areas

* Being responsible stewards of resources ->
Church World Service is people reaching out to neighbors in need near and far--not with a hand out, but a hand up. So, if you’re looking to help build a better world—a world were there’s enough for all—you’ve come to the right place!
We’re working with partners in the U.S. and around the world to build interfaith and intercultural coalitions to eradicate hunger and poverty and promote peace and justice. Together, we’re supporting sustainable grassroots development, disaster relief, and refugee assistance.
In the United States, we’re helping communities respond to disasters, we’re resettling refugees, we’re promoting fair national and international policies, we’re providing educational resources, and we’re inviting you and others to join a people-to-people network of local and global caring through participation in CROP Hunger Walks, the Blankets+ program, and the CWS Kits program.
