Mission: from website:

arche noVa - initiative for people in need is a non-profit- and non-governmental organisation from Dresden/Germany working primarily on the field of humanitarian aid, development cooperation and education. Regardless of the victims' ethnicity and ideology we support all those who suffer from war, suppression and natural disasters. With special regard to discriminated social groups our main aim is the rapid and unbureaucratical provision of sustainable aid in order to ease adversity and to assist self-help initiatives. To guarantee fast and effective action in difficult situations we offer our logistics and experience to local cooperating partners.

Notes:

Interim result: 4 weeks after the disaster struck

For weeks now two water treatment plants of arche noVa have been running up to the top of their capacity, providing ca. 12.000 litres fresh drinking water every day. Furthermore, arche noVa participated in the distribution of food and medical treatment in a field hospital in Leogane (west of Port-au-Prince). Within two weeks, two Mexican doctors of arche noVa have treated 1500 patients there (this medical aid action was partly funded by the Arbeiterwohlfahrt).

Humanitarian aid and water supply after series of earthquakes

A devastated city, a country in emergency, millions of people without homes – on January 12, 2010 a severe series of earthquakes (most severe one with 7,3 on the Richter Scale) hits the Caribbean state of Haiti. 80% of the buildings in the capital Port-au-Prince and the surrounding area don’t withstand the seismic shocks. Underneath the debris up to 220.000 people lose their lives.

Immediately after the earth quake, arche noVa sends six of their staff and two water treatment plants in the disaster area. Their aim: humanitarian emergency aid, especially the supply of safe drinking water. “Lack of safe drinking water and bad hygienic conditions are great risks when it comes to tackling the distress.” Sven Seifert, arche noVa’s International Program Coordinator, assesses the situation in Haiti.
