Mission: United Way of Central Alabama funds several major disaster response and recovery non-profits, including the American Red Cross and the Salvation Army. In addition, UW provides the 211 information and referral line to direct volunteers and survivors to community resources, organizes community resources to meet unmet needs, convenes VOAD chapters on a regional level, and is capable of managing local and state-wide federal disaster assistance grants on behalf of the Ala. Dept. of Human Resources. United Way of Central Ala. may be able to provide substantial funding to meet unmet needs when the need arises.

Other funding institutions agree to provide additional financial support in response to a disaster upon invitation by United Way.

Community Planning & Initiatives is United Way of Central Alabama's lead dept. to help in the response to disaster situations.
