Many needs exist throughout our area. Daily the physical needs of the citizens change. As we make progress toward recovery, the needs of Hackleburg will change as well. However certain basic needs will be with us for a long time.
Supplies
We will need supplies ranging from food, clothes, household essentials, storage totes, etc. for possibly a long time. The location of delivery and the methods of distribution is getting better each day. To make the process work the best we have two different locations. In Hamilton (800 Bexar Avenue East, Hamilton, AL 35570) we have our Storehouse Warehouse for supplies of every kind (non-clothing). This warehouse allows us to receive supplies and organize them to be distributed. In Hackleburg (at an old manufacturing plant) we have a distribution location. This is also where other services are set up like showers, washing of cloths and other needs. This location is for the survivors of the tornadoes and not for those dropping things off. We need to keep this location strictly for those needing to receive a service or supplies. This system is working and continuing to improve.
Keep a check on our facebook and our “Updates and Information” Page to get the latest info possible. You can also subscribe on the right side of this page to have updates emailed to you as soon as they are posted.
Possibly the greatest need is hands. Helping Hands. The specific task will change as we move forward.
These volunteers will need to go to the VOAD (Volunteer Organizations Active Disaster) check in location at the corner of Hwy. 172 and Culpepper Road to register as a volunteer and be assigned a location to work. There are several signs leading you to this location, no matter if you are coming from the north or the south.
Another type of volunteer we are in need of is those working the Storehouse Distribution Warehouse in Hamilton. This is where we receive items. We are working volunteers in shifts to allow the most work to be complete. The morning shirt begins at 9 AM and ends at 1 PM. The evening shift begins at 12 PM and ends at 6 PM (or earlier if we are complete). The first few minutes of arriving you will assigned a location to help serve those in need from unloading, to sorting, to preparing care boxes. We could use your help to distribute the great amount of supplies to those in need.
As already stated please stay in contact with us online to learn the changing needs and ways to help both.
While many are able to help, others cannot or would like to do more. There has been great financial loss and we hope to help as many as possible. Donate to this charity to help the citizens of this community.
Ok folks, Here is the latest in our volunteer needs that will help us the greatest. We have our ‘The Storehouse’- Warehouse that holds all of our supplies from food to cleaning supplies. This is the location in Hamilton (800 Bexar Avenue East Hamilton, AL 35570). We moved here from Hackleburg to have a larger space and better distribute since the town of Hackleburg was left with few buildings the days following the tornado. We have been distributing items and unloading incoming supplies, however we could use two types of volunteers.
1- Warehouse and Distribution Workers. We are going to try to run two shifts (or you can work both if you want). 9 AM to 1 PM and 12 PM (noon) to 6 PM. If you can work either of these any day(s) it would be a great help. Once you arrive at the Hamilton location the volunteer group will be distributed to the different areas (unloading, sorting, packing care boxes, and specific need location) to work the shirt. If it is possible to arrive at the beginning of one of the two shifts it will greatly help us in getting everyone working for the greater cause the fastest. Again 9 AM to 1 PM and 12 PM to 6 PM.
2- Warehouse Mass unloading and organizing. On Thursday night May 12th at 4 PM and Saturday afternoon we are asking for 30 to 40 people to show up at the Warehouse to help us unload the trailers that have been stored at another location while we got this warehouse up and running. Please help us spread the word. We want to make sure we are distributing all the supplies and not just the most recent received. People are beginning to share and report their needs more and we need everything easily assessable.
Thank you.
Monday I had the privlege of walking through all the delivery points of our system and really getting a feel of how it is going beyond phone calls. It took time but it showed me what we are doing great at and what we can do better.. and we are working hard on making it all better.
We are ask daily “What is the top needs in supplies?” The top needs are as follows directly from our warehouse and distribution location.
1- Cleaning Supplies – this includes equipment (tools, rakes, etc.), gloves, cleaning chemicals, brooms, etc. If you use it cleaning inside or out it is needed.
2- Non- Perishable Food- we do not need bread, or things that can spoil. We are starting to get more food request and we know this could go on for 6 plus months.
3- Baby Items- we have some baby items but they are starting to go faster. We want to make sure babies are taken care of everyday.
To the many who are asking “Do you still need volunteers?” YES is the loudest I can reply. We need you today, tomorrow, and sadly months from now. As always we tell you to come into town and follow the signs to staging. It is on the corner of Hwy .172 and Culpepper Road. However, if you are not bringing equipment or a large crew we now have another option for you. In our Supplies Warehouse in Hamilton (800 Bexar Ave. East) there is a constant need in organizing supplies and preparing it to go out to those in need. Please comment or message me your information and I will connect you with the key contact.

Volunteers
Possibly the greatest need is hands. Helping Hands. The specific task will change as we move forward.
However we will need:
* general labor
* skilled craftsmen
* equipment and equipment operators
* and anything else

Volunteers Needed!
May 11, 2011
Ok folks, Here is the latest in our volunteer needs that will help us the greatest.
Thank you.

Mission
On April 27th, 2011 was a historical day for the state of Alabama, along with several other states in the south, as we had hundreds of tornadoes sweep through the south. The town of Hackleburg, Alabama was hit by the only F-5 Tornado in the state. Our town of around 1500 people was almost completely destroyed as churches, schools, homes, and almost all our stores were destroyed. It will take years to completely rebuild not only the buildings, but the lives. -> Founded to assist those in need in our community for the long term recovery.
