Mission: Staff from Hope Crisis Response Network have returned from their first week of working in Alabama following the monster tornadoes. Our staff was able to conduct assessments, encourage local response organizations and help in the process of coordinating volunteers.

Damage from the storms is widespread and affects a wide range of homeowners. Initial indicators show that a segment of the disaster victims will need assistance both in cleaning up and rebuilding.

Because of these indicators, our staff is in the early stages of planning a long term volunteer base camp similar to our previous project in Gulfport, Mississippi. HCRN plans to build mobile units for housing and feeding volunteers who would travel to the disaster area and provide assistance to needy homeowners.

Our plan for "Hope City Alabama" would provide the opportunity for interested volunteers to give their time and talents to assist the disaster victims. We know that many generous individuals would like this opportunity.

On April 27th 2011 a EF 5 tornado hit the state of Alabama including the small community of Pleasant Grove Al.
Pleasant Grove (Jefferson County) is a suburb of Southwest Birmingham. Population 10,250. Currently well over 50%
of the community is destroyed including many churches. The National weather Service is confirming that Alabama
had 362 tornado’s durning that week and 312 in a 24 hour period. Currently the fatality number is at 340 statewide.
FEMA is in the process of doing damage assessments so it is to early to tell you exactly how many homes were
destroyed. Our team surveyed they affected areas and we can tell you first hand it will be in the thousands. Many
areas will be able to recover on their own but the town of Pleasant Grove will not be one of them without the assist of
a qualified disaster response organization such as ours.
Our plan is to build a Hope City just as we did in Gulfport MS. We are committing two years and will evaluate for a
third.
Whom do we Serve!
• Elderly
• Widowed
• Disabled
• Single parent families with children living in the home
• Low income families
• Severely under insured
• No insurance at all
• Families who have no other resources to help themselves
By the Numbers!
Projection for Hope City (2 year plan)
• To serve 400-500 homeowners (clean up, repairs and rebuilds)
• 50-60 Rebuilds
• To assist in developing a Long Term Recovery Program
• To mitigate as we build
• Work with the community to implement Preparedness Programs
• To take a holistic approach to the recovery (Emotional, Physical, Financial & Spiritual)
• To be a friend when one is needed and to be a Christ-like example at all times
