Donations and Volunteers needed in Limestone County -
May 31, 2011
http://www.waff.com/story/14772839/donations-and-volunteers-needed-in-limestone-county
ATHENS, AL (WAFF) -
So many people are working to rebuild the valley one step at a time. There is still a need for those people and several supplies.
The Limestone Recovery Committee is opening a recovery warehouse to storm victims Wednesday. It's located at 1968 U.S. Hwy 31 South in Athens.
2,500 families in Limestone County applied for some type of assistance after April's storms, 800 of those families were directly hit by a tornado.
Starting in June the doors to the disaster recovery warehouse will open to those in need, but there is still a great need for help.
Volunteer Coordinator Angela McLin shared some of the items they need.
"Some of the items that are really needed are new bedding, new bath towels because there is not enough of those items being donated," said McLin.
There is a lot of space to fill with items in the warehouse. Right now there are plenty of clothes.
"We have an overabundance of used clothing right now," said McLin.
Some extra help is also a high priority.
"The biggest thing is having volunteers available."
McLin says they can sit at the front desk or be personal shoppers for families.
Donated items are drop off only, there is no pick-up.
To volunteer or sign up for assistance, contact the United Way of Limestone County at (256) 233-2323.
