notes: Serving Lake Charles and Southwest Louisiana Volunteers of America has served Lake Charles and southwest Louisiana since 1990. We are best known for helping people with mental illness live independently in the community with a day center in downtown Lake Charles, and employment and housing services. More recently, our services have expanded to include affordable housing for senior citizens and other programs. Service centers in Oakdale and DeRidder provide social, recreational, educational, and employment opportunities, with an emphasis on mutual support to achieve ongoing recovery and rehabilitation. Personal Care Attendant/Respite Program Personal Care Attendant services help adults and children who are disabled to become physically independent.
