There are numerous organizations offering free legal resources to help victims of the Texas wildfires with the legal issues they face in the aftermath of this disaster. Below is a list of resources we hope you find helpful:

Texas RioGrande Legal Aid Disaster Assistance Hotline: 1-866-757-1570
For help with legal issues related to the disaster such as insurance claims, price gouging, landlord-tenant disputes, replacing important legal documents, or obtaining disaster-related public benefits. Hotline is staffed Monday through Friday. When lines are busy, callers will be able to leave their information and a TRLA staff member will return their call within 24 hours.

Description: Houston Lawyers Set Up Hotlines, Clinic to Answer Legal Questions For Those Affected by Wildfires

The Houston Bar Association (HBA) and the HBA’s Houston Volunteer Lawyers Program have volunteer attorneys ready to answer legal questions from residents of Harris, Montgomery, Grimes and surrounding counties affected by the wildfires. Volunteer attorneys will be available to answer questions regarding insurance, landlord/tenant law, records and documents, and other disaster-related legal issues at the following:

September 21 LegalLine – The public can call 713-759-1133 between the hours of 5:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. and speak to volunteer attorneys who will answer their legal questions related to the recent wildfires, as well as general legal questions.

October 1 Legal Clinic – Volunteer attorneys will be available to meet with residents who have legal questions related to the wildfires at the Saturday, October 1 clinic sponsored by the HBA’s Houston Volunteer Lawyers Program and the HBA’s Consumer Law Task Force. The clinic will run from 9:00 a.m. until noon at Ripley House, 4410 Navigation, Houston, TX 77011. No appointment is necessary; please bring any related documents.

Disaster Hotline/E-mail – The HBA's Houston Volunteer Lawyers Program has set up a disaster hotline and an email where those affected by the fires can email questions to disaster.assistance@hvlp.org or call 713-225-9455 and leave a message, which will then be answered by a staff attorney or volunteer attorney.
