About The Resource Guide

This electronic version of the New Orleans Community Resource Guide is the result of a partnership between the Common Ground Health Clinic and VOTE (Voice Of The Ex-offender).

Our purpose is to create a web-based clearing house of information that is accessible to community members as well as service providers. Our hope is simple and straightforward: That more people who need these resources will be able access them.

The New Orleans Community Resource Guide began as a one-page information sheet distributed by the volunteer staff of the Common Ground Health Clinic in the immediate post-Katrina period of 2005. With the support of REACH NOLA, and the labor of numerous staff and volunteers over the years, the guide has grown into a comprehensive document with over 300 listings of agencies providing social services across Greater New Orleans.

The Common Ground Health Clinic publishes updates to our guides twice yearly, and collaborates with other organizations to produce editions that focus on particular neighborhoods or topics. Our intention with our resource guides is to increase public access to information and services that are free or low-cost. Most of our listings are for locations in Orleans & Jefferson Parishes. Our staff and volunteers check the information for all listed services for accuracy every 2-6 months.

Every attempt has been made to make this guide as complete and accurate as possible. However, should you have any questions, additions or suggestions you feel should be included in the next edition, please contact Coleen Murphy at the Common Ground Health Clinic, 504-365-8800, cghcguide@gmail.com
About the Common Ground Health Clinic

Founded by volunteers during the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina on September 9, 2005, the Common Ground Health Clinic sees 450-500 patients each month, and works in the community to address societal factors that contribute to ill health, such as systemic racism and poverty.

Patient services include primary care, herbal medicine, social work, acupuncture, dermatology, endocrinology, referrals to behavioral health and cardiology services and Spanish language interpreting.

Although fees for service are requested on a sliding scale, no patient is turned away for inability to pay. Additionally, our Latino Health Outreach Project mobile unit sees patients in varying areas of the city each week, and serves as patient advocates for Spanish speakers.

CGHC’s mission is to provide quality health care for the greater New Orleans community, and develops and provides programs to address community health care needs through collaborative partnerships.

Our goals are to: provide quality integrative healthcare; provide quality healthcare education for preventive self-care; create an environment conducive to patient, staff and volunteer learning; work in an anti-racist paradigm.
