FAQ – Services

Who is eligible to receive food and assistance at the Pantry?
Anyone who lives in Ayer, Devens, Groton, Harvard, Littleton or Shirley.

What do I need to bring with me when I visit the Pantry?
You must bring a Proof of Residency (POR) each time you visit the Pantry. Once a year you must provide a POR for each member of your household. A POR is an official piece of mail such as a utility bill, rental payment receipt, etc. which lists your name, street address and a recent date. For minors, a POR is either a school or medical paper.

Can I come to the Pantry if I am homeless?
Yes.

If I don’t live in Ayer, Devens, Groton, Harvard, Littleton or Shirley, may I receive food from the Pantry?
We never turn anyone away. You will receive pre-packed groceries one time only as well as a list of other resources in your area.

When is the Pantry open for shopping?
Clients may shop during any open session. Doors open 15 minutes prior to the session start time. You will be entered in a lottery to determine shopping order.

How often may I visit the Pantry?
You may visit the Pantry twice each month.

How long should I expect to be at the Pantry when I visit for food?
Your wait time may be considerable, so please plan accordingly. Don’t worry. We never run out of food.

Can my children come with me?
Yes, children may come to the Pantry with a parent. Parents must supervise and keep children with them at all times.

What is the “green shelf?”
Clients who bring four reusable bags are eligible to select one item from the green shelf which is stocked with special items such as coffee and laundry detergent.

What do I need to do to qualify for the non-food related programs including Campership/Enrichment Program, Backpack Program, Shop for Your Kids Program and

Shop for Your Parents Program?
Returning families must visit the Pantry for food a minimum of four times each year. You may register for participation in the non-food related programs on your fourth visit to the Pantry. Your proof of residency must be up to date. *All new families in August may participate in the Backpack program. All new families in November/December may participate in the Holiday shopping events.

I noticed that some of the food I have received is out of date. Is it safe to eat?
Yes, every item is inspected to ensure that they are still safe and wholesome to eat. We follow the Greater Boston Food Bank guidelines.
