Notes:

The American Rainbow Rapid Response (ARRR) Medical Team
specializes in rapid deployment of mobile field medical
clinics to disaster zones where medical infrastructure
has been disrupted. The Medical Team arrives at the area
and makes a rapid assessment of the situation on the
ground, with the goal of establishing a medical clinic and
treating patients within the early days of response and
continuing until suitable infrastructure has been
reestablished in the region. We provide opportunities for
doctors, nurses, pharmacists, EMTs, and other medical
professionals to volunteer their time in the relief efforts.
Our infrastructure provides supervision for medical and
nursing students. Together we provide free medical care at
what may be the only clinic available for great distances.

We are equipped to provide general medical care for disaster
area residents and volunteers. We do not function as an
emergency room, and are not equipped to handle acute trauma.
What we do, though, is provide basic medical services, for
up to hundreds of people a day, affected by the loss of
primary care facilities. In Mississippi following Hurricane
Katrina the top concerns we encountered were refills for
prescription medications, management of ongoing chronic
illness, respiratory problems, dermatological infection or
injury, and other injuries. Where medical clinics are closed
as a result of the disaster, our essential field clinic serves
the medical needs of the population, enabling a return of
essential services following disaster.
