Supportive Housing Program (SHP) - The UCC is a member of the local Continuum of Care for homeless people in our area called the Homeless Services Planning Group (HSPG). The primary funding for this specific network of homeless services is through the Supportive Housing Program (SHP) grant, originating with the federal Housing and Urban Development (HUD), administered locally by the Department of Social Services. The SHP funding provides intensive case management for chronically homeless families and individuals in an attempt to find and address the primary issues causing homelessness. The SHP portion of the grant focuses on the serves. There is a companion grant, secured and administered through the Community Development Commission (CDC), the local housing authority, called Shelter Plus Care. This is the housing component of the local Continuum-of-Care.

Homeless Prevention Loans? With funding through the City of Ukiah as well as EHAP (Emergency Housing Assistance Program) funding through the state and administered to us through the Mendocino County Department of Social Services the UCC provides money directly to landlords or for utility deposits to prevent homelessness.

Temporary Assistance Program ? We provide vouchers for shelter, food, transportation and personal care for those without resources to purchase them for themselves.

Life Skills Training? We provide training for those entering our SHP programs -training covers barriers to housing, landlord and tenant issues, budgeting and much more.

Day Shelter - At both offices we provide a Day Shelter. We offer a warm, dry place in the winter and a cool place in the summer. We serve coffee and a light breakfast in the morning. We have reading material and toys for children to play with. There is a phone for clients to make local phone calls and a place to full out paperwork.

When we receive donations of clothing we put it in the Day Shelter for people to look through and take what they need. We are currently needing donations of tents, tarps and sleeping bags for the upcoming winter.

For our clients who do not have an address, we will receive mail for them and they can retrieve it from Chris or Gina our receptionists in each location.
