Food Distribution, Children, BackPack Program available at Food Bank of Northern Nevada, The

Food Bank will distribute backpacks of food to hungry schoolchildren

"Back-pack Kids," a program of the Food Bank of Northern Nevada, provides easy-to-fix weekend mealsfor homeless, needy children in the Children in Transition program in the Reno/Sparks area during the school year.

Donations of food, backpacks, bags, funding and volunteers’ time have come from the Junior League of Reno, Roy Gomm Elementary School, Nancy Gomes Elementary School, Soroptimist International of Truckee Meadows, Soroptimist International of Washoe County, Microsoft Licensing GP, Reno Gazette-Journal, SunWest Bank, Curves, Terry Lee Wells Foundation, Gold’s Gym, Girl Scout Troop #37, Cub Scouts Packs #43, #11 and #12, Hot August Nights, Home Mortgage Direct Lenders, Grand Sierra Resort, The River congregation, bunco groups and several individual donors.

Schools interested in participating as food collection sites or collection sites may call Sue Eckes at the Food Bank, (775) 331-3663 for information. . Businesses and organizations may make monetary donations or act as collection sites for specific food items for the backpacks.
