Notes:

Farmers and ranchers throughout southwest-central, central
and northeastern Kansas are dealing with the aftermath of
tornadoes, high winds, excessive rainfall and flooding.
This includes the loss/severe damage to homes and
outbuildings, livestock loss, crops damaged or in some
cases completely obliterated, as well as damaged or
destroyed farm equipment, fencing and irrigation
systems.

“These kinds of natural disasters tend to bring out the best
in rural folks,” said Steve Baccus, an Ottawa County farmer
who serves as president of Kansas Farm Bureau. “When the
worst happens, people want to help. As an agriculture
advocacy organization, we want to do all we can to take
advantage of that generosity and help direct the resources
where they’re needed most.”

Kansas Farm Bureau has established a farmer/rancher weather
recovery fund designed to assist farmers and ranchers who
have suffered loss or sustained damage due to the severe
weather in Kansas. County Farm Bureau organizations, Farm
Bureau members and others interested in assisting are
urged to send donations to:

or you may donate conveniently and securely online at:

If donors wish to designate a particular county, area
or type of need they would like to see addressed, that
would be helpful in distributing the funds. In addition,
KFB’s District Administrators in the affected areas can
serve as excellent resources to match up groups and
individuals wishing to volunteer their time and energy,
with farmers and ranchers in need of cleanup help.

State and federal government leaders were quick to react
to the hardest hit areas, securing the appropriate
weather-disaster related declarations, freeing the way for
federal emergency management assistance to deal with the
immediate human needs.

The declaration made by President Bush offers loans and
some emergency conservation assistance. When producers
are ready to tackle farm-related damage issues, they are
urged to contact their local Farm Service Agency office.
KFB is in contact with the state’s Congressional delegation
to ensure they are up to speed with the extent and amount
of agricultural damage and loss.
