mission: The Austin-Travis County Amateur Radio Emergency Service, also known as TCARES, is a component of the Amateur Radio Emergency Service (ARES), a subsection of the American Radio Relay League (ARRL). ARES consists of federally licensed amateur radio operators who have registered their qualifications and equipment for communications duty in public services to their community. Austin-Travis County ARES has multiple missions of support to the City of Austin Office of Emergency Management, Travis County Department of Emergency Services and to the American Red Cross in addition to other served agencies. Austin-Travis County ARES currently operates under a Memorandum of Understanding with the above agencies. To carry out our mission, we offer served agencies the use of our trained and experienced emergency operators who provide and maintain their own radio equipment and access to our network of widely distributed emergency equipment radio repeaters operating on a variety of frequencies. Travis County ARES members have an interest in volunteering to make ourselves, our skills and our equipment available to the community in the event of an emergency or natural disaster that causes the disruption of normal communications services in the area. This ARES group has a long and proud history of serving the local Austin area and is highly respected by the agencies we serve.
