Notes:

The goal of the Napa Valley Food Bank is to assist people
in becoming and/or remaining self-sufficient and lessening
the stress of meeting the basic need for food. We do this
through a variety of different programs and locations.

Emergency Food Pantry:
Low-income Napa County residents may receive an allotment
of food from one of our 6 locations every thirty days.
Eligibility is based on California Food Bank guidelines
for low-income households. These allotments are based on
household size and consist of meat, dairy, fresh produce,
dry and canned food items, rice and dry beans.

The Senior Brown Bag Program:
A bi-monthly program that supplements the nutrition needs
of low-income seniors, the Senior Brown Bag program is
designed to allow seniors, over the age of 60, to remain
independent as long as possible. Seniors receive a "Brown
Bag" foodbank supplement with approximately 10-14 food items
twice a month. Food items such as fresh fruit, canned
vegetables, oatmeal, bottled water, pasta, and tuna are
some of the items one may receive. This service is
distributed from various sites throughout the Napa County
for individuals to pick up or have delivered to infirm or
disabled according to individual need.

USDA Surplus Food:
The United States Depart of Agriculture contracts with the
Napa Valley Food Bank to administer 6-8 nonperishable food
staples to low-income Napa County residents once a month
from 9 locations. Items such as peanut butter, cereal,
canned fruits and vegetables, dry milk, and canned meat
are customary offerings.

Friday Free Market:
So as not to waste any resources and due to our fairly small
warehouse space, every Friday any surplus food Napa Valley
Food Bank has at the main warehouse site is offered to Napa
County residents. There is no income eligibility and clients
who utilize our other programs or those who do not qualify
are encouraged to access this program to offset their ongoing
need for food. Customarily there are 12-14 items. Often there
are perishable items such as dairy or produce that won't last
for distribution the following week.

The Natural Source Cooperative:
A Community Garden Culinary Project The Napa Valley Food
Bank, in collaboration with COPIA and Vintage High School
is currently working on this project, The Natural Source:
a Community Garden Culinary Project. This garden allows
the Napa Valley Food Bank to work with students to provide
an ongoing supply of fresh produce to low-income Napa County
residents. At the same time, students are learning about
food systems, business, food preparation, and social issues.
Because of the mild climate, this California Food Bank garden
naturally provides a year-round nutritious food supply and
concurrently builds responsible, community.
