Although it is hard for the community to watch, feeling as though their hands are tied behind their backs, MDS has called upon its Early Response Teams (ERT) from Arkansas and Missouri. These recently trained groups are well equipped with chainsaws for cleaning debris, tarping for roofs, and a host of other tools designed for early response assistance. They will be housed in Newton, Texas, an MDS camp site.
If you are interested in volunteering to help with clean up please call our office, (800) 241-8111, to find out current opportunities.
Remember the variety of ways you can give to MDS – volunteer your time, give money through cash donations, planned gifts, bequests and traded securities. Call our office to learn more details.

Disaster: 2005 Gulf Coast Hurricanes
This project closed on February 29, 2008
“The dedication of the two homes has been the highlight of our time together. To have had the opportunity to share the blessings that God has bestowed on each of us and to pass it on to total strangers has been so rewarding! But why am I surprised? Jesus said in Matthew 20:26-27, “Whoever wants to be great must be your servant and whoever wants to be first must be your slave”.” –an MDS volunteer in Newton .

Disaster: 2005 Gulf Coast Hurricanes
This is an RV project. This site will open on January 6, 2008
---------------------
Completed Project:
Newton and the surrounding area was hit by heavy winds during Hurricane Rita last Sept. MDS began with a very aggressive tree removal program. This moved into home repair on a number of homes. It was not until recently that money became available to build some new homes for survivors of the storm. MDS built 2 new homes and repaired several others. This is a bi-national project with Region 3 taking responsibility for providing volunteers beginning with a six week Amish Program.
MDS will be partnering with DETCOG (Deep East Texas Council of Governments) and Fuller Center for Housing in the next few months. ->
