notes: We offer NAMI Connection, which is a weekly peer-based, mutual support group program for individuals with any mental illness diagnosis. Our education programs are as follows: PEER TO PEER - A free unique, experiential learning program for people with any serious mental illness who are interested in establishing and maintaining their wellness and recovery. FAMILY TO FAMILY - trained family members instruct a free, 12 week education course on serious mental illness treatment and effective coping skills for family members. PARENT TO PARENT - Trained family members instruct a free, 12 hour education course designed for direct primary caregivers of children and adolescents having behavioral/emotional difficulties or brain disorders. PROVIDER EDUCATION - A trained team of 2 family members, 2 consumers and a professional who is also a family member provide 30 hours of training to mental health service providers to help them realize the hardships that families and consumers endure, and to appreciate their heroism in finding a way to reconstruct their lives because of mental illness. IN OUR OWN VOICE - Presentations provide an example of recovery from severe mental illnesses in action. The consumer is trained to put a face on mental illness and change the way people living with these no-fault brain disorders are perceived in the community.
