CURRENT OPPORTUNITIES – 230 AmeriCorps*VISTA positions in Linn and Johnson Counties: The Cedar Rapids Community is experiencing tragedy as never before. Roughly 25,000 residents have been ordered to evacuate their homes. Property in Cedar Rapids valued at $736 million has been directly affected by the flood; about $376 million of which is damage to private homes. Sadly, many areas experiencing flooding are neighborhoods already suffering high poverty levels. Obviously, this tragedy will greatly compound issues already being faced by these individuals. You can help by volunteering for the AmeriCorps*VISTA program. VISTA members will provide support to the collaborative flood relief effort. They will assist with volunteer recruitment and mobilization, providing necessary leadership to community-wide efforts. Specific needs of the community will be identified and strategies will be developed to meet these needs.
