Mission: THE LATINO FAMILY NETWORK

In 2003, I placed an ad in the newspaper inviting contact from all Latino
families living in Acton and the surrounding towns. The initial goals was to
meet other Latino families living in this area and strengthen our language
and cultural ties. In 2008, five years later, I have 200 members on my
distribution list, 80 Latino families from Acton, and other members from the
metro west region. The Latino Family Network meets every four months, three
times a year. At each meeting, families bring a traditional Latin American
dish to share. It is a great opportunity for newcomers and their families to
build an instant cultural network by sharing traditional food and music.

WHAT IS THE MISSION OF THE LATINO FAMILY NETWORK
The mission of the organization has been evolving from not only connecting
Latino immigrant families around culture and language, but also becoming
advocates for non-English speaking or immigrant families. Our mission
focuses on resolving disconnected situations within the Acton Public
Schools, local health care systems, and other social services in Acton.
