SAS was able to help with hospitalization. The children were accepted by and treated at Hopital de la Communaute Haitienne (HCH). Most of them were sent back home. Only one child remains hospitalized. They were able to get water yesterday and today - so they have enough for about two weeks. The logistics director from HCH went to visit them to analyze the situation. His recommendation is that a hold be drilled to gather sullied water from wash, hands, etc.... What they need is: 1 - Funding to drill temp. hole 2 - Bathroom not usable and MUST be rebuilt. Also - for 1 bathroom for 86 kids plus about 10 employees just doesn't cut it. Funding needed. SAS can help with engineering. 3 - Port-a-potties must be installed for the kids to use in the meantime - as they have no where to go. 4 - Cleaning supplies - including clorox needed. SAS can ensure follow through with this situation. I don't have a medical team to go over there right now, but we were able to arrange free hospitalization. If anyone group wants to help with this project, please let me know. I will try to work on some funding for them on SAS end. ---------------------------------------- NOTE: L. The owners are very wary of Westerners and don't necessarily take instruction well. The conditions are deplorable with no running water and excretia piled up in toilets. The hygiene awareness is next to nill and they really need someone they can trust that understands their culture to come in and provide supportive instruction that will not put them in a defensive position.
