Introduction:

Ø The organization was established in January 1996 by a group of young people after getting training from Caritas Multan, Pakistan.

Ø SEP took step to launch awareness campaigns on the social basic Human Rights and Economic issues facing society.

Ø In November 1996, linkages were extended and the organization contacted South Asian Partnership Pakistan (SAP) and was selected for a yearlong training programs called Resource Development Program(RDP)

After graduating this program SEP started taking further steps to undertake Community based development initiatives.

Goal:

"To strive in order to ensure equal political, social and economic opportunities for all citizens”

Objectives:

Ø To empower viler-able and marginalized groups through provision of basic political, human and social rights education.

Ø To promote the status of socio-economic development of people.

Ø To raise awareness for the child rights.

Ø To raise awareness on peace through social & interfaith harmony.

Ø To promote preventive and curative health facilities in the rural areas.

Ø Central to the activities of SEP include women’s empowerment in terms of providing them education, legal aid and soft loans. The women belong to both communities Christian & Muslims

Team:

Currently SEP is operating in the whole of Vehari District and has a large membership. The organizational structure is comprised of two main councils i.e. General Council and Executive Council. Executive Council consists of 9 members (4 female& 5 male). The General Council consists of 65 members who comprised of laborers (sanitary workers), journalists shopkeepers and other common men and women from all faith. Members of the executive and general council meet on regular basis.

v Women Empowerment Program (Human rights education, Gender sensitivity, Violence against women, Legal aid)

v Advocacy and lobbying (addressing different issues regarding human rights violation, sanitary workers rights etc.).

v Health Program (Preventive Health Education, Reproduction Health Care Center)

v Capacity building Program (Awareness Seminars, Trainings, Workshops on community building and leadership)

v Democratic support Program (Peace through interfaith &social harmony and Good governance)

v Global March Campaign against Child Labour, 1998, supported by SPARC, Islamabad, Pakistan.

v Project, Strengthening Democratic Electoral Process, 2001, supported by South Asia Partnership (SAP), Lahore, Pakistan.

v Joint Election Campaign, 2000, supported by National Commission for Justice & Peace, Lahore, Pakistan.

v Training of Trainers on HIV/AIDS, 2001, supported by AMAL Human Development Network, and UNICEF, Islamabad, Pakistan.

v Democratic Rights & Citizens Education Program, 2001, supported by South Asia Partnership (SAP), Lahore, Pakistan.

v Citizens Campaign for Women’s Representation in Local Government Election, 2002, supported by AURAT Foundation, Lahore, Pakistan.

v Research Study of Local Election 2002, Phase III, supported by PATTAN Development Organization, Islamabad, Pakistan.

Empowerment of People through Sustainable communities is SEP’s priority, where people could work on self-help basis and thus make maximum use of their own resources. All role players’ participation is assured towards the achievement of this common goal by following common vision, mission and goal.
