Mission of the Haitian Red Cross

The mission of the National company of the Haitian Red Cross is not different from that which the International federation of the Companies of the Red Cross and the Red Crescent preaches, in the document “Strategy 2010” namely:

“To improve the conditions of existence of the vulnerable people by mobilizing the capacity of humanity.”

In terms more specific to Haiti, the National company defines the elements of its mission as follows:

“To improve the conditions of existence of the people living on the Haitian territory, without reference to nationality, made suddenly vulnerable of the continuations of a natural disaster, an unexpected accident or becoming it because of their age, their physiological Statute, their health condition, their mental state, or their legal statute or their economic condition.”

The National company achieves its mission:

with the request and in collaboration with the national authorities concerned
or on request of the family close to a victim;
or on a simple call to the assistance;
by mobilizing with the action its many members (first-aid workers, ambulance men, volunteers, employees and leaders);
by having the contest of the partners of the International Movement (FICR, PADRU, SNP);
while requiring and/or by managing the support of the organizations of financing; and
while calling with solidarity, organizations of benevolence and members of the Civil society.
To protect the life and dignity from the most vulnerable people, to carry help and assistance in the event of urgency to them, to help them to rehabilitate itself in a durable way and to guard itself against the harmful effects of the catastrophes through the diffusion of information and the formation, such is the ultimate goal that the National company of the Haitian Red Cross is fixed, within the framework of the execution of this National plan of Development.
