Funds are typically available for only the first few days of each month. Families may receive assistance once within two years. Clients seeking assistance should call first to verify that funds are available. Clients need to bring a shut-off notice or other valid proof that their accounts are at risk for disconnection, as well as a standard bill differentiating current charges from past-due and/or other utility charges, and photo ID. Clients are expected to have made some small, sporadic good-faith payments in order to qualify for assistance. Bills that have only been paid by agency assistance in the past will not qualify for help from the Salvation Army.
