(August 29, 2011) – Pender County has been declared by the President of the United States as Category B for public assistance under the Robert T. Stafford Disaster Relief and Emergency Assistance Act as a result of emergency protective actions taken in preparation of Hurricane Irene. A Category B declaration means Pender County is eligible to receive a 75 percent reimbursement from the federal government for eligible efforts such as activating the Emergency Operations Center, opening shelters, clearing roadways and any other efforts made to protect the public.
