For Immediate Release:
October 30, 2012
Springfield, Mo. – Convoy of Hope’s Global Disaster Response team has sent an additional 80,000 pounds of emergency supplies, a debris removal trailer and two rapid response teams to the Northeast U.S. today. Teams are focusing their response in New Jersey at this time.
“Our trucks and personnel that left Sunday were pre-staged in College Park, Pennsylvania and are moving into New Jersey now,” reports Jeff Nene, national spokesperson for Convoy of Hope. “The teams leaving today will be headed for the east coast and will be assigned a location when they are closer to the affected area.”
Damaged and closed roads, along with closed bridges have made travel slow but the teams continue to coordinate with FEMA, along with local and state emergency agencies. News agencies are reporting millions without power and in need of assistance.
Convoy of Hope will continue to coordinate their efforts with federal, state and local emergency management agencies. “The disaster area is extremely large,” said Nene. “We are starting in New Jersey because of the number of people without power is so significant and we can have an immediate impact.”
